Tourists
craving for excursions, adventure, and getaways have made the right
choice by picking Sri Lanka as a destination and booking Nuwara Eliyaaccommodation. As a city, Nuwara Eliya has a lot of pleasurable and
memorable experiences to offer. To guide you, here is a short list of
attractions and activities that you should not miss for an easy and
fun-filled day exploring the place:
1.
Seetha Amman Temple – You are probably familiar with Rama
and Sita from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Located near the 83 km post,
this temple is said to be the spot where the demon King Rawana held
Sita captive. This is where she prayed everyday for Rama to rescue
her. Similarly, along the rock face across the stream in the temple,
circular depressions can be found and are believed to be the
footprints of Rawana's elephant. These days, the colorful Seetha
Amman Temple is a sight where Tamil wedding parties stop to perform
puja or a Hindu prayer ritual.
2.
Gregory Lake – What
better way to start the day than a lovely walk by the lake? Gregory
Lake is an emerging focal point of the town. Long neglected, the town
council has finally invested in
it and created newly paved walkways along its
fringes. It is a nice place
to have a picnic and there are also small restaurants and snack bars
around. Boats can be hired for a relaxing ride down the lake and
horses can be rented for a nice trot, too.
Admission cost is Rs 10, paddle boat rental is Rs
1,500 for
30 minutes and
motorboat rental is
Rs 2,000 for
20 minutes,
and horseback
rides cost
Rs 2,500 for 1 hour.
3.
Grand Indian – Don't let the cafeteria-like look of Grand
Indian fool you. It serves a very good meal of Thali and everyone is
just a fan of it, evidenced by the ever present energetic buzz
surrounding the place. Make sure to come early in the evenings to get
a table. There is also a decent bakery around the back to finish off
your meal. The restaurant can be found in front of Grand Hotel and is
open from 11 AM to 11 PM.
4.
Single Tree Hill – If you want to do some more walking, head
to Single Tree Hill. It is around 2,100 meters and will take you
about 90 minutes to complete. Come on a leisurely morning or
afternoon and have a nice time talking and walking about. To reach
it, go south on Queen Elizabeth Road and up to Haddon Hill. When you
reach the communications tower, go left. You can ask guest houses or
your resort in Sri Lanka to supply you with a map.
These
are only 4 of the many spots you can visit to have an easy and
fun-filled day in the city. Spend some time out of your Nuwara Eliya
accommodation, such as Langdaleby Amaya, and take the time to visit these places to complete
your vacation. Enjoy!
